Summer Shorts 2009 recap
Ooops, Tyler sent me this days ago but it was lost in the Scramble.. scramble -N.
Another year of summer Thursday night sailing at TCYC comes to an end. This year the wind gods smiled upon us and we were blessed with above average winds and sun too! Many of the races started with crews swimming off the boats, notably MakaI (although personally I think Peter may have been having them dive and clean his keel!).
The racing was casual but competitive. Both divisions saw one boat dominate the top spot, SENZA and MAKIA, but there was jockeying for the remaining positions. In division one TIGER LILY, AQUA PERLA, and LITHIUM were all quite close and it could have gone anyway. Division Two's second place was fought for by ED, PEGASUS and MYSTIC. We also saw some a new boat with a all women crew make a appearance, WANDERLUST.

After the races on most nights there was good attendance at the Wicklow Public House for beers and bragging. Our sponsor West Marine did a great job supplying us with small prizes (rigging knives, first aid kits, flashlights, bilge pumps, etc.). Quantum Sails will be providing us with two sail cloth duffel bags for the winners to be presented at the Annual TCYC Awards Dinner later in the year.
I would like to thank the following people who made this year a success:
- West Marine (Vancouver)
- Quantum Sails
- Niko (Web assistance)
- My Crew who helped me (most of the time LOL) do Race Committee
- All the skippers who brought their boats out
I would encourage all TCYC Thursday night racers to participate in False Creek Yacht Club's Fall Thursday Night Series.
