Who is in for the desolation cruise this year?

Looks like the weather will turn around to give us the warm August days we want for the cruise, if not the wind we want to get there. SailFlow is predicting a very light northwesterly for Monday through Wednesday to get us there. Tides for the trip up are good, with a 12 foot rise at Pt. Atkinson starting at about 10 AM each day, so we should at least get a boost from that on the way up.

Desolation Cruise Itinerary:

Aug 16 - Plumper Cove

Aug 17 - Smuggler Cove

Aug 18 - Powell River

Aug 19 - Laura Cove

Aug 20-21 - Pendrell Sound

Aug 22-23 - Roscoe Bay

Aug 24-25 - Teakerne Arm

Aug 26 - Squirrel Cove

Aug 27 - Powell River

Aug 28 - Pender Harbour

Aug 29 - Plumper Cove

Once we connect in Desolation the anchorages are subject to change based on group dynamics, crowding, etc. but we will try to stay pretty close the the scheduled locales to make it easier to hook up. Fly your burgee and keep an eye out for fellow Tiddlies!

Discussions and suggested equipment/charts, etc. are discussed on the forums at http://forums.tiddlycove.bc.ca/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=36. Looks like awnings and hammocks will be top of the list for essentials this year.

Fleet members are requested to monitor VHF Channel 68 1400-1430 (2:00-230PM) daily for communications, and to have their cell phones turned on for that time as well. Please note that cell coverage is spotty at best in Desolation, and VHF range is poor as well due to the topography. The times for the radio/cell schedule have been selected as the most likely hours for vessels to be out of anchorages and in the clear for good communications.

Please contact me at rob_murray_[at]hotmail.com if you plan to come along with your 1) vessel particulars and 2) cell phone number. I will compile a list of participants and circulate to the fleet via e-mail.
