Statistical Proof that TCYC Rocks

This is totally interesting (if a little bit nerdy:-)
Fleet Cpt Tyler downloaded the BC Sailing PHRF list for 2009 and analyzed it by yacht club. Look at this:

Wow... despite out tiny membership, a full 10% of all registered, active racers in BC are Tiddlies! This is even more amazing when you compare it to Royal Van or West Van numbers.. What this really represents is a measure of how active TCYC members are.. we don't just join a club in order to find moorage, we join the club because we use our boats - A LOT

Here is another interesting breakdown

(a) Our boats are small (I could have told you that for free!) Smaller than the "big" clubs, smaller even than the provincial average.

(b) Our boats are slow. Ouch.. Well, not as bad as it sounds.. not "slow" but "slow rated" - which of course makes sense, considering that as of point (a), our boats are smaller. (What we really need here is for Tyler to calculate club Performance Values - a measure of boat speed, for a given waterlime..)

Conclusion

We ROCK!. TCYC is definitely the small club that could.. the yacht club for the rest of us.. the... [send me some good cliches, will you?]

Steve's Gravatar Interesting analysis. Question: was the 10% based on number of members who participated in one event or more? Or was it based on number of boat-events (ie if a boat participates in 10 events, that counts 10 times)?

Would be also interesting to compare the number of total boat-events to the respective membership base of each club. I bet Tiddly would come out on top.

SARANDIS's Gravatar No, actually it is percentage of boats registered for a PHRF certificate for 2009. Basically percentage of "active" racers in BC

Ian's Gravatar Neither Fancy Free nor Karma are registered under PHRF BC. They are PHRF NW, not sure if others are similar. So factoring the non BC Sailing boats will increase the percentage. Interesting.
