Newcastle Island Fall Sail

Plan to sail across Georgia straight on the October long weekend Oct. 7, 8, 9. 

Meet at Newcastle Island Marine park in Nanaimo harbour.  The trip is 32 nautical miles from False Creek.  For a description of the park, see web page at: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/newcastle/

Moorage is $2.00 per meter at the dock and $14.00 for a mooring ball.  Anchoring is free.  There are showers and flush toilets on the island. A ferry goes between the dock and Nanaimo.

On Saturday evening plan dinner and merriment at the Dinghy Dock Pub located on Protection Island beside the park. The food is very good. Access is by dinghy or ferry.  See http://dinghydockpub.com/

Departure is flexible depending on your schedule. (Sunday or Monday.)

There are no issues with tide and current getting to the moorage. A pleasant straightforward sail across Georgia straight. Arriving boats check in on channel 68.

The first boat to arrive will get a free drink for each crew at the pub. And there will be a worthwhile prize for the last boat to encourage it's crew to persevere
