Monthly Meeting, October 16 Patrick Munro, no relation to the famous Munro, but well known as a sailing commentator and radio personality, will be speaking on a recent cruise from Mexico to Tahiti. Annual Awards Dinner, November 4 Mark your calendars for our 2003 Awards Dinner to be held on Tuesday, November 4th, at The Ivy Restaurant, 3525 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver (cocktails 6:30 pm / dinner 7:30 pm / awards 8:30 pm). The Ivy Restaurant has agreed to close to the general public for the evening so we will have the restaurant all to ourselves. The Ivy Restaurant is in the same block as Forerunners, on the North side of West 4th (next-door to the Fitness Group). There are usually parking spaces available on West 3rd, a block behind the restaurant, and on surrounding blocks. The cost for dinner is $30.00 per person, including tax and gratuity.
This includes a 3-course meal, one glass of wine with dinner, and coffee
or tea. Please bring your payment for dinner to the restaurant (cash or
cheque made out to TCYC).
See you on the 4th, and thanks to everyone who submitted ideas for a new location for this year's Awards Dinner. Penny Bax, Social Director September Meeting This arrived anonymously, but the editor can reveal the source to maligned parties for a small fee. Please note that the Gerry mentioned below is the Gerry (i.e. Gerry Maguire), not the editor Gerry who was in the Fiordland part of the Great Bear Rainforest having the time of his life. Word on the street has it that the September meeting was a great success and could become known about town as the Annual Tiddly Pub Night. The talk of the town was Trevor, toting his own BBQ and flipping burgers by lamp light while wearing an apron and deck shoes. It was hard to tell if you were with James Beard or the Naked Chef. Bev, flagrantly floral and carefully coiffed greeted the first 25 guests with a plastic spoon and a smile. Richard, looking summery in shorts and nautical golf(?) shirt turned the plastic spoons into beer and wine. Ellen favouring a fiscal approach focused on finances and told us the Pub night was our reward for not frittering away our funds. Bill and Sue had an impromptu class reunion with Patrick and Ann and managed to mingle with the minions as well. John was looking positively naked without the usual assortment of new boat owners and potential members while Bruce was leathered up for a function but I don't think it was the pub night. Gerry made a statement wearing his Thursday night yacht club blue blazer while Debbie and Keith, pillars of the club, managed to hold up their end of the bar evening. Ernie and Leila wearing walking togs were still amazed that Ernie had fun (spelled f-u-n) racing on a different boat for the Easter Seals regatta. Kenna was keen to share her Christmas baking and brought along some fudgy cookies. (Christmas in September and fudgy cookies?) Fred and Joanne quietly circled the tables munching on goodies while looking for extra spoons. Brian was taking notes of the anchorages in case he ever gets away from race committee duties while Ken furtively flexed his muscles and consumed carbs as preparation for his Sunday rugby game. Rob made a cameo appearance but gave up two great anchorages while Glen mulled over the evening underneath a red ball cap. Mary Sue was subdued, perhaps off her meds, or on her meds while Michael addressed the group wearing one of the two shirts he owns. And last but far from least, Sabine and Arnaud were positively pregnant and should have popped the newest Tiddly member by publication time. Some of the members gave up the names of their favourite anchorages. This will be much easier next year if we organize a lap top and chart program. Information shared by leaning over the nachos and pointing at paper charts included: ·
Blueberry Point on Valdes for a lunch hook and warm water dip. TTFN The Tiddly Tattler Easter Seals Regatta After two years of owning the coveted award for most boats from one club participating in the regatta, Tiddly lost the trophy to WVYC. Revenge must be had next year at what is probably the most enjoyable party of the season. As no photos can be found of the party or the decorated boats or the costumed crews, we must move on to the racing part of the day. Rhumb Line won div 1 (competing for RVYC again!) by 23 seconds over Occam's Razor while Harwar was 5th of 15 boats. Pegasus, also having joined RVYC while not looking, only managed 6th in div 3 as the crew was distracted by trying to memorize dance steps for the costume/decoration competition. Intuit and Urban Well placed 4th and 5th of 14 M242's, both competing for Royal Van this week. Desiree, despite bringing in Ernie Fiedler as tactician, retired from the race; our commodore, known to be a member of both Tiddly and Eagle Harbour, has secretly joined DCYC as well. FCYC Thursday Nights Once again, Tiddly members got the prize for most club boats in the series. Urban Well, Aldebaran, and Pegasus all won their divisions while Heather skippered Rhumb Line to a second overall. My Harley, Intuit 3 and Makai had to settle for mere top half finishes. Both Aldebaran and Makai got their first bullets of their very young careers in this series. Last Chance Race Intuit 3 won performance as is traditional. Mumbles II took cruising with three bullets while Lodestar showed Makai that experience pays. Makai has sailed a lot in her first racing season, but Tim is not yet in the greybeard category. The editor missed this one while cruising in the Great Bear Rainforest. Other Racing News Once again, the Fraser River Lightship race was held on a perfect day. Perfect for water skiing, that is. Lodestar and Harwar were spotted returning to the dock after a short (startless) race. For the fleet championships, we have Intuit 3, Senza, Rhumb Line, Urban Well, Broos, and Carrera III in racing division. Mumbles II, Lodestar, Saltire, Pegasus, Kindred Spirit, My Harley make up performance with Makai needing to actually join the club to be eligible. The results will be announced at the Awards Dinner.
