Christmas Party

Our annual Christmas Party will be held on Thursday, December 12th at the Maritime Museum, starting
at 7pm.  Get into the holiday spirit by sharing in the fun and festivities with your fellow Tiddly members.
As always the Club will provide Christmas cheer in the form of seasonal beverages and goodies … and this
year we have a special musical surprise (which was revealed to attendees of the AGM).

New Year’s Day Race

All the details are in the November Winks.

January Meeting

Please note that the January meeting is on the FOURTH Thursday, not the usual third.  The April meeting
has been likewise moved.  A full bio of the January speaker is in the November Winks.

Robbie Burns Day, January 25,26

"One of our most popular get togethers -  Robbie Burns night - is not that far off!!  As you know, this is a g
reat fun weekend.
Our new Rear Commodore Tom Bendle (604-879-1591) will be in charge of the event with help from me and
others as needed.  Tom can be contacted by email at tcopper@shaw.ca.
Here's the deal:  Tiddly sailors make their way to Snug Cove during the day on Saturday January 25th.
Members usually prepare for the evening by gathering on various boats and indulging in munchies and pre-dinner
beverage(s). <Note: single Malt is a very acceptable form of beverage for the occasion.
Dinner is scheduled to be served at 19:00 hours.  We have tentatively reserved for 25 people but this year,
Doc Morgans has said that if we want to hold the reservations we must call them and give a credit card number.
Cost will be about $25.00 per person plus taxes and gratuity.  Plus booze etc.
The reservation can be cancelled if adequate notice is given.  Absent bad weather preventing your getting there
or your own demise, reasonable notice would seem to be at least 48 hours notice.  Simply stated they do not
want to be stung with a bunch of no shows.  (Tiddly members can brave any weather to get to a party!)
The same rules apply to moorage.  Cost is $0.50 per foot, electricity is $5.00 per night.  Credit card reservation
with boat name and size (length and beam) and number of nights must be communicated to the Marina facilities.
There is a 25% discount for moorage for boats that raft up.
PLEASE CALL (TERESA) AT THE RESTAURANT 604-947-0707 TO MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS.  CALL RICHARD
AT THE MARINA FOR MOORAGE.  (Same number and not long distance)
PLEASE EMAIL TOM AND LET HIM KNOW THAT YOU HAVE MADE YOUR RESERVATIONS SO THAT WE CAN
KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THE RESTAURANT AND MARINA TO KEEP US TOGETHER  ETC.
We seem to have helped make the event a very popular event so the Marina is recognizing our continued loyalty by
setting down rules re reservations etc.
Some members from Eagle Harbour Yacht Club, being envious of the fun we have at this event have asked to join us.
As a result, it appears that another 10-15 people and 5 boats from that club will participate.  (Many of you will know the
Eagle Harbour guys and if not, time to make some more friends!)
Sunday, depending on weather  (and whether you are able), someone is likely to organize a race back to False Creek.
(Désirée only races back to Eagle Harbour as a gesture of courtesy to the more serious racers in the crowd!)
Make your reservations now while it is in your mind!  It's a great time!
Michael Spearing

We need a new Club Historian to replace Michelle James who has done this for some years.  2003 might be a
year in which the historian merely stores the club records and historical information, or it might be a year in which
the historian writes an updated club history booklet.  Who wants to take a gamble?
We also need a representative for CBCYC, CYA & BC Sailing, and PIYA; if you would like to volunteer or know
what the duties involved are, please contact our new commodore.

The Orb and Sceptre of office are passed on.

2002 Awards Dinner

The 2002 TCYC Awards dinner held on November 5th was its usual brilliant success.  Rob Clarke’s Ouisi Bistro provided
the food and Tiddlies provided the spirits.

Lots of trophies were won and many volunteers were publicly thanked with prizes.  I won’t reveal all the winners here so as
to leave some news for the yearbook, but I can say that Phil DeGeller became the second Commodore in the recent past to
walk away with the coveted Log Boom award.

Once again, Intuit3 won the fleet championship trophy in the racing division.  After several years of trying, Pegasus finally
won the fleet championship trophy in the cruising division.  It is purely a coincidence that her owner (your Editor) took over
the calculation of race results this year.  Lodestar compiled an equal record of two wins and two seconds, but lost out on tiebreakers.

Tiddly Biography

Stu and Pat Hicks have been with TCYC since the early 80’s. If you check back on the records, you will see that Stu was
commodore in 1991.

Their first boat was a Thunderbird, which they bought back in the 60’s. It was a good boat, but they moved up to a Kelt, and
eventually to a C&C 30, Sassy, which they own now.  Stu and Pat have been having some fun with a new snuffer for their
spinnaker, and find that it works very well.

Stu and Pat don’t race as much as they used to. When they go sailing, it’s for a nice cruise over to the Gulf Islands or up to
Pender Harbor.

Stu, although a retired BC Hydro engineer, keeps himself pretty busy with a new product that he and a company that he
consults for are developing. It’s a safety device used with transformers. Stay tuned for more on that.

Pat and Stu both like to garden, and have a vegetable patch, some raspberries and some flowers. That also keeps them
pretty busy in the summer. When they’re not sailing, gardening or consulting, they like to spend time with their family, which
includes, count them, 9 grandchildren.

Croosin’:  The Saltire, 3rd

My customary honesty presses me to admit that our Commodore, single handing Prime Interest, did manage to sneak in
ahead of The Saltire, but was recorded in a different division by BIYC.  The ‘Really’ refers back to complaints that the editor
maliciously failed to mention two boats in the June Winks, where the rest of the Round Bowen results can be found.

Please visit www.varc.bc.ca and look at the list of sponsors and the complete results.  One sponsor, Mustang Survival,
gave away an inflatable life vest for every single day of VARC racing in 2002.

For Sale

Long time member Gerry Gailey is selling his boat.  For those of you who don’t know him, he was Commodore in 1987 and
won the Dave Jordan Memorial trophy in 1991 for outstanding contributions to the club.  He currently lives in Nanaimo.  The
following is from his ad:
